Pictures submitted by Brian Berger - 25Oct2001

Hello Gregory,

I have a collection of photo's for you this time, I am unsure of the locations of some of them but I hope that the buildings in the background will bring back memories to some of the Veterans. Included in the photo's is a picture of a group of soldiers at the rear of a vehicle, my father, Al Berger is the second person from the right.
I know that the 6th Infantry Canadian Brigade Headquarters was at Firle Place, Firle, Sussex, England and that the Brigade were also stationed at Welbeck Abbey in May 1944. Welbeck Abbey is the Historical Mansion of the Duke of Portland. The subterranean passages extend for many miles beneath the Mansion and it has a magnificent underground Ballroom and Picture Gallery that are one of the wonders of the world.
Another posting that my father had was to Canterbury, Kent. I recall him telling me that if you went into a different pub every day of the year, you would not be able to visit each one as when the Brigade was stationed there, there were 367 pubs!
There is also a mention of the 14th Canadian General Hospital, R.C.A.M.C. in Smallfields Road, Horley, Surrey and another mention of the Brigade being stationed in Lewes, Sussex and of course, Aldershot, Hampshire.
Should any of your members wish to contact me for information on the places that I have mentioned then I will be only too pleased to try and help them.
I will write to you soon with the information on the book I was telling you about.

Regards,
Brian Berger.
